Management Services

Finance

Our Finance department manages:
  • Accounts payable
  • Accounts receivable
  • Medicare and Medicaid reimbursement invoicing
  • Payroll
  • Resident billing
  • Vendor financial relationships
  • And assisting residents with long-term care billing or reimbursement documentation.
It also maintains the general ledger; prepares monthly management reports that document variances in revenue, expenses and staffing ratios; administers the 403b program and prepares for annual audits and tax preparations.

Information Technology

Our Information Technology department ensures efficient operation of all network and cloud-based software applications used by Lutheran Social Ministries of Maryland and its communities. The department is responsible for:

Low-voltage operations such as door-locking/opening applications, resident bulletin-boards and health-safety devices
Overseeing staff use of computers, laptops, tablets, phones and associated software to enable the device functionality
Managing a HelpDesk program to triage incoming support needs and ensure the direct service departments are able to serve the residents

Risk Management

The Risk Management function coordinates all property and liability related insurance claims, including working closely with various departments to coordinate and submit damage or injury reports and monitoring the processing status of claims as well as ensuring appropriate documentation is developed, maintained and submitted on behalf of the organization.

Risk Management is also responsible for renewing all lines of insurance, documenting appropriate property values and insurance limits, and deductible management.

Human Resources

In addition to creating and administering Human Resources polices, the department provides the following services to Lutheran Social Ministries of Maryland and its communities.
  • Overseeing processes that comply with federal, state and local employment laws, including applicant screening processes and practices
  • Establishing and implementing talent acquisition processes and best practices
  • Administering the electronic systems, including applicant tracking, team member self-service and performance appraisal systems
  • Guiding team member behavior and linking every part of their experience to LSMMD’s core values
  • Setting team member recognition opportunities and appreciation programs linked to LSMMD’s core values
  • Managing new team member welcome and supervisory, management and leadership development training
  • Maintaining team member handbooks
  • Managing compensation systems and competitive wage analysis processes
  • Administering team member benefits and leave of absences
  • Coaching and consulting managers on team member performance issues

Operations

Lutheran Social Ministries of Maryland provides operation oversight of:

Provides a range of disciplines and services to ensure communities (i.e. buildings, infrastructure, real estate and grounds) are functioning at a comfortable, safe and efficient manner. To maintain a high-quality resident experience, the department routinely provides preventative maintenance and a systematic work order system for residents to request assistance.
Prepares and serves meals for all residents, while following food health and safety procedures. Menus meet dietary needs, and meals are available through in-person dining, carry out and delivery services.
Implements daily administrative functions, including distributing key communications to residents, maintaining and updating resident directories, processing incoming and outgoing mail and answering incoming phone calls from the community, residents and families. They are considered the hub of information for the residents, families and local community.
Provides skilled nursing, assisted living, long-term care, memory care, rehabilitation, social services and life enrichment services performed by professionally trained staff including registered nurses, licensed practical nurses, geriatric nursing assistants, licensed social workers and physical, occupational and speech therapists.
Offers services and programs focused on the seven dimensions of wellness (i.e. intellectual, social, emotional, vocational, physical and environmental) so residents can lead an active aging lifestyle. The Life Enrichment/Wellness team is comprised of activity, fitness, nursing and social work professionals.
