Lutheran Social Ministries of Maryland’s life plan communities —Carroll Lutheran Village in Westminster and Lutheran Village at Miller’s Grant in Ellicott City—recently earned five-star quality ratings from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services, the highest rating available from the federal agency.
This top-tier designation highlights the outstanding care provided in each community’s health care center and reaffirms LSMMD’s ongoing commitment to excellence, resident well-being and person-centered care.
“This honor is a direct result of our team members’ compassion, professionalism and dedication to the well-being of residents,” said Jeff Branch, LSMMD’s president and CEO. “We are proud to have earned CMS’s highest rating at both communities—it affirms our unwavering focus on quality care and mission-driven approach to serving older adults.”
Both communities have long been recognized for their excellence. CLV has earned the title of Carroll’s Best for 12 consecutive years in the categories of Best Retirement Community, Best Assisted Living and Best Nursing Home by readers of Carroll County Times. Earlier in 2025, the community was named one of U.S. News & World Report’s Best Nursing Homes for Short-term Rehabilitation, a testament to its comprehensive care and rehabilitation services.
For six consecutive years, LVMG has been named Best of Howard by the readers of Howard Magazine and, most recently, the Baltimore Sun. The honor reflects the community’s vibrant lifestyle, supportive care and commitment to quality.
CMS’s Five-Star Quality Rating System evaluates nursing homes nationwide based on health inspections, staffing and quality measures. A five-star rating signifies superior performance across all categories and places CLV and LVMG among the nation’s most trusted providers of senior care.
